As a merchant, you have the choice between carrying legal goods and making a small amount of profit or risk sneaking in prohibited goods and making massive profits (provided you don't get caught). Sheriff of Nottingham is very similar to the card game of bluff. As an additional bonus, the tiles are beautifully patterned. It mixes just a little bit of strategy with a whole lot of fun, making it very popular with casual gamers. I highly recommend it if your group enjoys aspects of puzzle-solving.Īnother game in a small, portable box, Azul is a great game to carry on your trips. It's a quick play, and the rules are straightforward. You'll be baffled by how much information can be conveyed by saying very little. And you need just a deck of 50 cards and a few tokens to play it. It's so portable that you can carry it to cafes and play while your food's getting prepared. Hanabi is a cooperative card game, and, in my opinion, it is brilliant! The rules are elementary, even though the game itself, is not. But in the current scenario, I think it's impossible to draw up any list of board games and not include Pandemic :) This is a cooperative game, where all the players are playing as a team against the board and have to race against time to cure the diseases. You can chuckle at the "Quarantine Specialist" trying to control "outbreaks" in the hotspot regions. ![]() I would not have added this game to a "board games for travel" list in a pre-COVID world. It is a great game for new gamers too, and you can test the waters with this one. My group and I have played Splendor literally everywhere - while sitting at the airport waiting for a friend while waiting for dinner to arrive at an extremely slow restaurant (Goa restaurants can test your patience) or while being groggy-eyed at 1 A.M. The digital game works well because of the minimal number of action choices you have at each step. I've always played the digital version on my iPad, which is as portable as it can get. Splendor is one of those games which can take a while to explain but are pretty intuitive once you start playing. My husband and I have spent many an enjoyable evening duelling each other :) This duel version comes in a tiny box and is highly portable. It also has a Duel version for two players, which has different gameplay but is equally engaging. It's also a fantastic fit for larger groups, as it accommodates up to seven players. The simultaneous gameplay enables short-lengthed games, and so you can play multiple games in one session. But the game can get addictive very quickly. The rules are a bit complicated, as is the gameplay. This game themed after the seven wonders of the ancient world is another excellent addition for your trips. But I seriously cannot recommend this game enough - unleash your inner art enthusiast. Okay, enough with my use of superlatives. And let me just circle back to the absolutely beautiful artwork on the cards. It's the kind of game you can play in trains too (we recently did). It has all the other benefits of having a small box, quick gameplay and being light on strategy. The rules are excessively simple and can be taught in about 5 minutes. ![]() However, players must first get their goods through the city gate, which is under the watch of the Sheriff of Nottingham.I recently discovered Dixit and instantly fell in love. Prince John is coming to Nottingham! Players, in the role of merchants, see this as an opportunity to make quick profits by selling goods in the bustling city during the Prince's visit. The Sheriff must then determine who gets into the city with their goods, who gets inspected, and who may have their goods confiscated! Players declare goods they wish to bring into the city, goods that are secretly stored in their burlap sack. In Sheriff of Nottingham, players will not only be able to experience Nottingham as a merchant of the city, but each turn one player will step into the shoes of the Sheriff himself.
